The quarterback competition in Philadelphia was fun to follow for a while, especially when multiple beat reporters were saying Nick Foles was the best quarterback for this team. But after two preseason games and a very telling practice Saturday, it looks like you can call this battle in favor of Michael Vick .
Both players have played well during the preseason, but Vick has thrown just two incompletions, made smarter decisions with the ball and created many more big plays. Today, Vick was rewarded for his performances with almost all of the first-team reps during Saturday's practice. Foles worked with the first team on some hurry-up and red-zone drills late in the session, but the wide majority of his plays came with the second-team offense.
I don't know if head coach Chip Kelly will make an official announcement soon, anointing Vick. He said today he won't even announce his starting QB for the next preseason game until Monday. But barring injury, Vick will be the Eagles' starting quarterback on Sept. 9. That position is so loaded that I don't know if Vick can crack the top 12 in drafts, before he has a chance to show that he can carry this August success into September. But he is a high-end QB2 at the very least. He has easy top-10 upside.
