The Browns' quarterback competition that was never thought of as much of a competition has reached its conclusion. Head coach Rob Chudzinski said Tuesday that Brandon Weeden is his guy, as he should be. In two preseason games this month, Weeden completed more than 70 percent of his passes for 229 yards, three touchdowns and no turnovers. Chudzinski had said in recent days that the battle between Weeden and Jason Campbell for the starting job was close. But it never really was.
You can probably discount Weeden's terrific August stats since it's only the preseason; I doubt he'll play that well consistently in the fall. But he should still see a big improvement compared to his numbers from last year -- 3,385 yards, 14 touchdowns, 17 interceptions. He is a definite sleeper in two-quarterback leagues. Weeden has a lot of weapons, and his physical skill set fits Norv Turner's attacking offense. I'm definitely buying later on in drafts.
