Fortunately for Jets head coach Rex Ryan, quarterback Mark Sanchez 's shoulder injury isn't too serious. Sanchez has a bruised right shoulder joint, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter. Sanchez sustained the injury after getting hit Saturday against the Giants, a game in which Sanchez didn't enter until the fourth quarter. Sanchez won't play in the team's preseason finale on Thursday.
Had Sanchez made it through the preseason healthy, he would have been the vast favorite to be the Jets' Week 1 starter. But Ryan put him at risk in the fourth quarter of a game he reportedly didn't expect to play in anyway, and now it looks like Geno Smith , who started Saturday and threw three first-half interceptions, may have to take the first snaps of the season.
