NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reported Thursday that New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez will be out for their regular season opener according to severel team sources. The former USC quarterback has not yet thrown since sustaining the injury in the team's preseason game last Saturday. Team officials are actually concerned Sanchez could miss multiple weeks. There has been no official announcement which named the Jets' Week 1 starter, so that will come in time.
The writing has been on the wall for Sanchez for months now. The shoulder injury essentially seals the deal for Geno Smith to begin the season as the starter. The rookie will need to be on his A-game as he faces former Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis and the rest of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 1.
