Just a about month ago, we were talking about Chris Ivory 's desire to be a three-down running back, and the possibility that Santonio Holmes could miss at least the first four weeks of the regular season. Well, the regular season is nigh, and things have changed. For one, it is Bilal Powell who is listed atop the Jets' depth chart at running back. Ivory is second.
Holmes is also listed as a starter for Sunday's game against the Buccaneers. He is coming off of a severe Lisfranc fracture and foot surgery.
Ivory battled a hamstring injury for most of training camp, but he should be the Jets' lead runner in time. It seems like head coach Rex Ryan will begin the season with a backfield committee. Oh, boy.
You might forget that Holmes was pretty good even with Mark Sanchez under center last year. He caught 16 passes for 243 yards and a score in three games before suffering his foot injury in Week 4. I don't know what he'll do with Geno Smith , but Holmes should be his No. 1 target. Holmes is available in a lot of leagues and doesn't hold much value right now, but he bears watching.
