Jaguars quarterback Blaine Gabbert entered Sunday's game with a right-hand injury and he left the game early because of one, too. But they aren't related. This newest injury has nothing to do with the thumb that Gabbert fractured during the preseason. Instead, Gabbert lacerated his hand late in the fourth quarter and needed 15 stitches to close the cut. Head coach Gus Bradley said Monday that Gabbert won't play this weekend against the Raiders. Chad Henne will start in his place.
I am not a Chad Henne fan -- are there any out there? -- but I think he's better than Gabbert, who completed about 45 percent of his passes and threw two interceptions in Week 1. Henne's presence should mean better games ahead for Cecil Shorts and Maurice Jones-Drew . Bradley said he's "hopeful" that Gabbert will return for Week 3. Take your time, Blaine.
