Vernon Davis , who is currently nursing a hamstring strain, was the only 49ers player to not practice Friday. All he did during the day was work with a trainer on side field. In fact, Davis didn't practice at all this week, and he didn't provide the media many clues when asked whether or not he would play Sunday versus the Colts.
"I'm feeling pretty good, sore, bruised up, but that comes with the business, comes with the game," Davis said via Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee. "Definitely my focus is on this game. ... We shall see when Sunday comes."
Davis is officially questionable for Week 3.
"We shall see when Sunday comes." That doesn't exactly inspire confidence. Davis and the 49ers don't play until the late afternoon, and I think the odds are against him being active. So, I would suggest playing it safe and using another tight end this week unless you have someone such as Martellus Bennett or Coby Fleener on your roster and can afford to wait for Davis' game availability to become official. Rookie Vance McDonald is Davis' in-house replacement, but even he is dinged up; he's listed as questionable due to an ankle injury.
