Calm down Christian Ponder fans. The former Florida State Seminoles signal-caller is only out due to a fractured rib and has not lost his job. In his place, the Minnesota Vikings will turn to Matt Cassel to face the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 4. Cassel has NFL experience after stints with the New England Patriots and most recently, the Kansas City Chiefs.
A report from ESPN's Adam Schefter back in July stated that the Vikings would not hesitate to give Cassel an opportunity if Ponder underwhelmed. A quarterback controversy is still a stretch because since if Cassel stinks it up, none of this matter and Ponder will get his job back. Pittsburgh's defense is no push over and will be a tough test for Minnesota regardless. As for the player in question, Cassel shouldn't be anywhere near your team's roster.
