The San Francisco 49ers have inquired about trading for Cleveland Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon . The Browns are supposedly asking for a second-round pick. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the deal is "unlikely with Mario Manningham coming off PUP, Crabtree slated to return" in November.
Adding Gordon would be huge for the 49ers. Gordon is far better than Manningham, even in his prime before this injury, and the second-year receiver is much further along than Crabtree was at the same point in their careers. Crabtree at the No. 1, Gordon at No. 2 and Manningham in the slot would be very good trio. The 49ers obviously need the help, as evidenced by Colin Kaepernick completing just 6-of-15 for 113 yards last week against Houston. It's not every year that they'll end up in the Super Bowl, might as well strike when the iron is hot.
