A massively disappointing Monday for Falcons fans has given way to a back-breaking Tuesday with the news that wide receiver Julio Jones is probably out for the rest of the season. Jason Cole of the National Football Post has been told by a league source that Jones broke the screw that was inserted into Jones' then-fractured foot before he was drafted in 2011.
Cole also reported Tuesday that wide receiver Roddy White has "at best, a roughly 50-50 chance of playing" in Week 7. White has been dealing with a high ankle sprain all season and added a hamstring injury during Monday's loss to the Jets. Atlanta is on bye in Week 6.
Jene Bramel of FootballGuys.com, who is an actual part-time doctor, tweeted Tuesday that if Cole's report is correct, "I don't see how Julio avoids surgery. Average time to recover in athletes undergoing screw revision = 12 (weeks)." That would end Jones' season easily.
With White also banged up, it's quite possible that Harry Douglas will be Matt Ryan 's No. 1 wide receiver in a couple of weeks. That is something that seemed so impossible just 24 hours ago, but Douglas should be added in most leagues. Ryan's top target would most likely be Tony Gonzalez. That is, if he isn't traded soon. Things are definitely not looking good for Matty Ice's fantasy prospects going forward.
