According to NBCBayArea.com, prosecutors in Santa Clara County, Ca. have filed three felony charges for possession of assault weapons against 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith . The charges stem from a June 2012 party that Smith hosted at his house, and two guests were shot. Smith already has two civil lawsuits filed by the victims facing him. The lawsuits don't identify Smith as the shooter, but accuse Smith of firing and owning illegal firearms. The suits aim for Smith to be held responsible for the shooting because it occurred on his property.
Smith hasn't played since Week 3 and is currently in rehab following his Sept. 20 arrest for driving under the influence and marijuana possession. He will be away from the team indefinitely.
All I can say is it will be a while before we see Smith on the field again. The 49ers' defense has played very well in two games without him and is a quality start this Sunday versus the Cardinals.
