Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Doug Martin is in a sling with a still-unknown shoulder injury. The team hopes it is just a bruise and not a more serious separation. Martin requires an MRI to confirm a diagnosis. Tampa's next game is on Thursday, which is a very quick turnaround for what coud be a bad injury.
UPDATE: A very recent report by NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport suggested Martin could be out multiple weeks.
Martin had to step out in the third quarter of Tampa's eventual loss to Atlanta. Initial X-rays came back negative, but the Bucs are doing their due diligence to pinpoint the injury. Backup rookie RB Mike James was forced into action and toted the rock 14 times for 45 yards. Martin owners should consider finding an emergency backup, maybe even James, since even if Martin does play, one solid hit on his shoulder could end his day abruptly. Tampa hosts Carolina in Week 8.
