The Minnesota Vikings won't be able to give quarterback Josh Freeman a second chance since he has been diagnosed with a concussion. Former starting QB Christian Ponder has overtaken Matt Cassel and will find himself back under center against the Packers. Freeman has not yet been cleared and is not expected to be ready until Week 9 against Dallas. Freeman was awful in his debut last week, completing just 20-of-53 for 190 yards and an interception.
Steer clear of this quarterback situation if you can. There's no reason to waste a roster spot on Freeman or Ponder. Neither one is capable and amount to nothing more than band-aids until they're ripped off and disposed of heading into the draft. Harsh words, but this is what the game is all about. Ponder had his shot and so did Freeman. Ponder has one year left on his deal and Freeman only signed a one-year deal with Minnesota. Hindsight is always 20/20 but most of us were all very surprised when the Vikings drafted Ponder with the No. 12 pick in the 2011 draft. By the way, look back at that draft's Top 15 picks. You really had to go out your way to mess that up.
