The Arizona Cardinals will likely be without starting running back Rashard Mendenhall Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons. He did not practice Friday due to a toe injury and has been hit with the doubtful designation. The Cards are expected to use RBs Andre Ellington and Stepfan Taylor in a split backfield.
Arizona continues to express a desire to limit Ellington's role so Taylor might surprise people with a dozen or more touches. Also on the roster are Ryan Williams and Alfonso Smith , but don't expect to see much of them. Williams has been inactive every single week, despite having no injuries. Smith has 27 touches on the year, yet has seen his role dwindle as the season progresses. Taylor, a rookie, is really the only guy with upside not named Ellington. Mendenhall hasn't done a whole lot considering his playing time and featured back status. When he returns, use him as a flex when the matchup is right, but don't expect too much from him.
