New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan said Monday the team may opt to bench wide receiver Stephen Hill, the second-year receiver out of Georgia Tech."We've been expecting bigger things for Stephen. Quite honestly, it hasn't happened," Ryan said. Hill has zero catches in his last two games and his development appears to have stalled greatly. The speedy receiver's draft stock blew up at the NFL Combine and was known to be a very raw player in college.
Hill benefitted in college by playing for a team that ran the ball all day long. When they did throw it, it was more of a trick play that looked to catch the defense off-guard. Hill has great raw, physical abilities with size and speed. The problem though has always been his hands. In some conversations before the season, I belittled his abilities. He can be good, but he obviously has a very long way to go to become a proficient NFL-caliber receiver. Look for David Nelson to play more alongside Santonio Holmes since Jeremy Kerley is injured.
