Jaguars wide receiver Cecil Shorts couldn't play in Week 15 because of a groin injury, and there's a good chance he won't play in Weeks 16 or 17 either. According to Ryan O'Halloran of the Florida Times-Unon, the Jaguars' brass are "seriously considering" shutting Shorts down for the remainder of the 2013 season. Shorts had been playing through the injury since midseason and aggravated it in Week 14. He said he will need offseason surgery to fix the issue.
I am not sure why the Jags haven't already ruled Shorts out for the duration. They are 4-10. He is their best receiver and needs surgery anyway. Why risk making a significant injury worse by putting him through a couple of meaningless games? Expect that Shorts won't play again this year. Mike Brown, Ace Sanders, Kerry Taylor, and tight end Marcedes Lewis will finish as Chad Henne's top targets. Nobody here has substantial value outside of the deepest of leagues. In that case, Lewis has some appeal if you have nowhere to turn at tight end. He has scored in three consecutive games.
