Michael Crabtree recorded 5 catches for 102 yards in a Monday Night Football win against the Falcons. Conversely, Vernon Davis was held without a catch on only 3 targets. Davis propelled many owners to a championship match with his 12 touchdown season; this was the first time this season Davis has been blanked.
There was no reason to believe that Crabtree wouldn't have a good game against Atlanta on Monday night. Unfortunately, the same could be said about Davis.
It seems Crabtree is getting better every week since returning from an achilles injury. He'll draw CB Patrick Peterson and the Arizona defense next week, but after his performance Monday night, expect HC Jim Harbaugh to find ways to get Crabtree the ball. He'll be a WR3 with upside headed into the season finale.
Davis, on the other hand, picked the worst possible week to put up a goose egg. Heading into this weeks game, Davis' only truly bad performance was a week 8 disaster (1 catch, 2 yards) against Carolina. And Atlanta is no Carolina.
If you can swallow your rage, you should have Davis in your lineup week 17. Arizona gives up a lot of points to TE's, and it's unlikely Davis repeats his week 16 debacle. San Fransisco can still win the division, and with a lot of help, even get home field advantage throughout the playoffs. So you don't need to fear that the 49ers will rest their starters this week in Arizona.
