Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett said Monday that the team would have to sign a third quarterback in wake of Tony Romo's back injury. But no one expected Jon Kitna to be the signee. Yet, Kitna did sign a contract with the Cowboys on Tuesday. Kitna, 41, played for the Cowboys from 2009-11 and then retired early in 2012. But he's back. Kitna will likely be the direct backup to Kyle Orton this weekend versus the Eagles. Romo reportedly has a herniated disc in his back and will probably not play. The Cowboys worked out quarterbacks David Carr, John Skelton, Tyler Thigpen and Caleb Hanie before deciding to sign Kitna.
Please try to imagine how Kitna would look if Orton goes down with an injury early on Sunday. That would be something. No real fantasy value here. If you're playing in Week 17 and are a Dez Bryant or Jason Witten owner, just hope Kitna stays off the field.
