Chicago QB Jay Cutler re-signs with Bears through 2020

Chicago QB Jay Cutler re-signs with Bears through 2020

Ending the speculation that followed Jay Cutler through this season, GM Phil Emory announced Thursday that the Bears have come to an agreement with QB Jay Cutler, keeping the QB in Chicago through the 2020 season.'s Alex Marvez reports the first three years of Cutler's deal average $18 million per season.

Fantasy Analysis:

This will be all that Chicagoans talk about this offseason. With the surprising play of veteran Josh McCown this season, some thought the Bears would re-sign McCown to a relatively inexpensive deal and look toward the future at the position in the NFL draft this spring. While others believed that Cutler would get the Franchise Tag this year, very few people expected that a long term deal would be reached so quickly.

While not everyone was happy with Cutler's play this year, particularly his turnovers, it's clear that HC Marc Trestman and GM Phil Emory were sufficiently impressed with Cutler. WR Brandon Marshall @BMarshall, WR Alshon Jeffery @TheJefferyShow and TE Martellus Bennett @MartysaurusRex's fantasy value will all benefit from consistency at the position. Given the quality of talent around him and the style of offense run by Trestman, Cutler may break into low QB 1 territory next season.

Now the Bears can focus their attention in the draft to fixing the secondary and shoring up the defensive line. Also, If the Bears have the opportunity to re-sign McCown as Cutlers backup, they should do it.
