Come Thursday, start the clock on Rob Gronkowski 's latest recovery timetable. A source has told NFL.com's Ian Rapoport that Gronkowski will undergo surgery this Thursday to repair the torn ACL and MCL in his right knee. The surgery will be performed by Dr. James Andrews. It will be the eighth known surgery of Gronkowski's career, and his sixth since November 2012.
Gronk was "slow" to recover from his back and handful of forearm operations last year, at least according to the most commonly reported timetable, which had him playing again by Week 3 or 4 this season; he didn't play until Week 7. Yes, once he got on the field, Gronk was still a dominant player. But this is a major knee surgery for an increasingly injury-prone player. We'll see how he heals during the summer, but I probably won't be paying a high price (second-, third- or fourth-round pick) for Gronkowski.
