Ravens RB Bernard Pierce expected to undergo shoulder surgery, miss 4-5 months

The Ravens' desire to sign running backs this offseason just got a little more heightened.
Running back Bernard Pierce @BPierce_30 is expected to undergo surgery to repair a torn right rotator cuff and will need 4-5 months to recover, according to the Baltimore Sun's Aaron Wilson via a league source. Pierce has reportedly not decided whether to go under the knife, but the operation will take place this month, if Pierce decides to proceed, so he can have sufficient time to recover for the 2014 season.
"If Pierce opts not to have surgery, he would still require months of rehab to strengthen the shoulder," Wilson wrote.
Pierce ran 152 times for just 436 yards and two touchdowns as Ray Rice @RayRice27's backup in 2013. He also caught 20 passes for 104 yards.

Fantasy Analysis:

Pierce was never listed with a shoulder or arm injury of any kind during the season. If he has the surgery this month, he would miss spring OTAs, but most likely be good to go for training camp. Both he and Rice just finished very poor statistical seasons, but Pierce could be a bigger part of Baltimore's running game next year if he stays healthy.
