Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official website has a piece up about running back Andre Ellington already preparing for next season. That includes visits to the training room to heal some late-season nicks and visits to the workout room to add weight onto his 200-pound frame. It also talks about how much of a neophyte the rookie Ellington was when it came to lining up as a receiver and running routes in training camp. Yet, Ellington caught 39 passes this season and saw more and more snaps away from the backfield later in the year.
Keep in mind that Rashard Mendenhall is about to become a free agent. While I think the Cardinals should commit to Ellington, they most likely won't, afraid that his lack of size will leave him too vulnerable to injuries and unable to take on a full workload. But even as half of a running-back committee, Ellington has supreme upside. If the Cardinals use him correctly -- continue to give him the ball out in space; is 14-16 touches per week too much to ask? -- Ellington is going to be one of the best value picks in your draft.
