Despite sitting out of practice all week, the Chargers think their leading rusher will be up against the Broncos this afternoon. NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports that the team expects Ryan Mathews to play even though a sprained ankle that he aggravated last week kept him sidelined during the practice week.
Not only did Mathews miss all practices, he was seen wearing a brace over his injured ankle and walking "gingerly" on Friday. He is a very risky fantasy start, especially considering the Chargers know they can lean on Danny Woodhead and Ronnie Brown to carry the load if Mathews just can't continue -- they did that last week versus the Bengals. Mathews ran all over the Broncos in Denver a few weeks ago, but everything we've heard during the week makes it sound like he'll be fortunate to see anything more than 15 touches and get through four quarters without another aggravation.
