We've got stories today on a fantasy commodity getting the franchise tag and other ones getting signed. And in the realm of the kicker, we've got one of each.
Panthers kicker Graham Gano was rewarded for a career-best season Friday with a four-year contract worth $12.7 million. He made 24 of 27 field goals in 2013.
Jets kicker Nick Folk is also coming off the best year of his career, but he was assigned the franchise tag, which is worth about $3.5 million for next season. He went 33 for 36 on field goals. Neither player missed any of their combined 69 extra-point attempts.
Both players had what feel like outlier seasons. Folk's conversion percentage shot up close to 92 after spending three consecutive years in the 70s. Gano's accuracy also improved drastically. He possesses one of the league's strongest legs, but neither player here sits in the elite class of fantasy kickers. They, like most kickers, are options only if you are streaming every week.
