It's hard not to be happy for McCown. He has put in time on so many different teams before his breakout last year. While he may not have the success in Tampa that he did in Chicago last season, you get the feeling that he earned this contract and root for him to succeed.
We knew Lovie Smith had interest in McCown, so this doesn't come as much of a surprise. While Lovie doesn't have the reputation with quarterbacks that Marc Trestman has, it was unlikely that the Bears could offer McCown the contract that Tampa could considering how much money they already had invested in the position.
The 34 year old journeyman should get the opportunity to compete with second year QB Mike Glennon, and it's still possible that the Bucs draft a QB, although now it's less likely they'll do so in the first round.
For now Jordan Palmer will back up Jay Cutler in Chicago, but they could also look for a young QB later in the draft.
