We heard a couple of months ago that Packers tight end Jermichael Finley was "close" to being cleared for contact following spinal fusion surgery in November. However, that day still hasn't come, and recent reports have stated that Finley could possibly be several months away from being able to sign with a team. That could be pessimistic, but Finley definitely wasn't ready to sign with a team earlier this month.
Pete Dougherty of the Green Bay Press Gazette reports, via a league source, that Finley failed a physical when he visited the Seahawks during the first week of free agency.
"The source didn't know whether the Seahawks will bring Finley back for a re-check," Dougherty wrote. "Though Finley has said he expected his surgeon to proclaim the bone in the neck fusion healed this month, that doesn't mean NFL teams will clear him to play football, at least for now."
There is no longer a timetable for when Finley will be medically cleared. However, he has been drawing an interest from a handful of teams. Once that clearance comes and Finley passes a team's physical, we can judge his fantasy value. But again, that looks to be a ways off.
