I know that's an incredibly vague headline, but there isn't much more to go on at this point. What was originally reported this morning by TMZ.com was that Kaepernick is a suspect in a sexual assault investigation. The alleged assault took place in Miami on April 1. 49ers wide receiver Quinton Patton and Seahawks wide receiver Ricardo Lockette are also named as suspects.
But what they are suspected of doing isn't actually specified in the official incident report, and the Miami Police Department is currently calling the situation a "suspicious incident."
The incident report states that an unidentified woman and the three men had drinks and did shots at Lockette's apartment. The woman claims that the men "told her that in order to drink the shots, she had to 'hit' the bong which contained marijuana."
As the woman began to feel lightheaded and went to a bedroom to lie down. Kaepernick, with whom the woman said she has had a sexual relationship, entered the room and began kissing and undressing her. He then left the room as she waited in the bed. At this time, Patton and Lockette "peeked" into the room. The woman told them to leave, and they did.
The woman said she does not remember anything after that. She awoke in a hospital bed, unsure of how she got there. The report doesn't state if evidence of intercourse was detected at the hospital.
No fantasy take here. This story seems to be changing rapidly, and I will continue to post updates as they warrant. Hopefully, the true matter of the investigation will become known soon. At the very least, the NFL will want to look into the players' possible use of marijuana. But that might end up being low on Kaepernick's list of concerns.
