Blaine Gabbert is long gone, and the Jaguars didn't wait long Thursday night to take who they hope can be their quarterback of the future, for real this time: UCF quarterback Blake Bortles. He was the third overall pick.
Pardon me. Before I start this fantasy take section, I have to say, as a UCF alum, that I am pretty damn happy right now.
Now ... please don't ruin him, Jacksonville. And that means please don't play him in Week 1 of the regular season. Bortles isn't ready for that. I believe he has the most upside of any quarterback in this draft, but he is an unfinished product. He is a big, athletic quarterback in the mold of an Andrew Luck -- although Luck is much better. Bortles still needs to work on his accuracy and arm strength. I fear that if Jacksonville starts him from the beginning, he is going to get swallowed up by the league because that team isn't ready to support a talented-but-raw rookie quarterback. Bortles shouldn't have much fantasy value this season. Chad Henne should have the greatest odds of being the Jaguars' starter.
