Johnny Football is yours, Dawg Pound. The Browns traded up from 26th to 22th with the Eagles for the price of a third-round pick in order to draft Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel on Thursday night.
Browns head coach Mike Pettine said it was going to be "very difficult" for a rookie to beat out QB Brian Hoyer in a camp competition. But you know the fans -- and really, the media and NFL fans all around the country -- will be clamoring for the Browns to give Manziel a shot as soon as possible. He falls into quite a nice situation as he is surrounded by wide receivers Josh Gordon and Andrew Hawkins , tight end Jordan Cameron, and running back Ben Tate . And you know he is going to run a lot. That's a sure bet with Kyle Shanahan as his offensive coordinator. Look at what he did with Robert Griffin III ... well, for one year, at least. He could be a decent QB2 this year because of his legs.
If you're reading this post, you know what Johnny's all about. He is a roller-coaster ride, but he is must-see TV. I'm not high on his long-term future -- his style of play with that skinny body is going to lead to bad things at this level, and I don't believe he can be a good enough passer consistently -- but people want to watch him every time he plays. I know I do.
