NFL.com's Ian Rapoport broke the news Monday that the NFL has suspended Rams wide receiver Stedman Bailey four games for violating the league's policy on performance-enhancing substances. Bailey is entering his second pro season out of West Virginia. The speedster caught 17 passes in 16 games as a rookie.
Rapoport tweeted that the Rams have known about Bailey's pending suspension for months, yet curiously did not spend any of their 11 draft picks on a wide receiver. And it's not like this team is flush with proven talent on the outside. The Rams are still waiting for players such as Tavon Austin , Chris Givens , Brian Quick , etc. to hit their stride. And don't even get me started on Kenny Britt .
Once the regular season starts, Bailey will be eligible to return to action in Week 6 since the Rams have their bye in Week 4. But there is one silver lining for Bailey: He plays football, so his suspension and the reason behind it will be forgotten as soon as he catches his first pass. At least he doesn't play baseball, where he would have to put up with accusations of ruining the sport or cheating the fans or disrespecting the history of the game or whatever from the media.
