Are you ready to be teased again?
Kenny Britt is a big, tall receiver whose career has been one big tease. He is most known for knee injuries and off-field knuckleheadedness. In the middle, during parts of the 2010 and 2011 seasons, Britt showed how good he can be when he is at full strength and concentrating on football. But that goodwill was wiped out due to a suspension and underwhelming numbers in 2012. He bottomed out last year as he caught just 11 passes in 12 games and looked generally disinterested in playing.
Britt, 25, is trying to begin again with the Rams and his former head coach, Jeff Fisher. It's only June, but so far, so good.
"Kept himself in really good shape during the free agency period," Fisher said of Britt via the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "Came in and has done a great job. He's had no setbacks, he feels great physically. So he can potentially return to where he was a very productive receiver."
Britt said he is excited for his opportunity with the Rams, who are moving him all around the formation. He said he is relaxed and feels like a rookie again. Most importantly, he feels healthy.
"I'm just trying to get back to where I was before," Britt said. "I'm feeling healthy. I'm feeling strong."
I was an unabashed Britt supporter the past couple of years. But I'm off the hook now. There is certainly plenty of room for Britt to grow into a starter in St. Louis -- no one in that receiving corps is unassailable. And again, he is just 25 years old. But Britt has been such a letdown, I'll leave him for someone else in the late rounds of my draft. Even if he keeps his head on straight, I can't trust the rest of his body to hold up.
