This seems like something that can only end badly for the player, but alas ...
Raiders running back Darren McFadden put in "a lot of work" returning kickoffs on Monday, according to Vic Tafur of the San Francisco Chronicle. Head coach Dennis Allen said, "Anything is an option" to get McFadden on the field.
Allen has even considered using Maurice Jones-Drew on special teams. Today's scenario, while I consider it ultimately unlikely, seems more realistic because McFadden is clearly faster. My fear is that McFadden won't stay on the field for long if the Raiders open him up to hits from guys who have a 40-yard running start. McFadden certainly doesn't need any extra "help" getting injured; he's been sidelined for various spans during each year of his six-season career.
We might end up with a RB competition in camp between these two, and whoever comes in second will be used at times as a returner. Between McFadden's brittle body and the low tread on MJD's wheels, I'm not looking forward to drafting either player this year. If I had to pick one, it would be Jones-Drew.
