Tim Wright was pretty productive as a rookie last season: 54 catches for 571 yards and five touchdowns. However, the Buccaneers have since signed Brandon Myers and drafted Austin Seferian-Jenkins in the second round last month. That means there's a chance Wright goes from first to third on the Bucs' tight end depth chart. But head coach Lovie Smith isn't considering that. He said Tuesday, via PewterReport.com, that he has "big plans" for Wright in the passing game this season.
Yawn. Wright is a fine athlete, but AS-J is the guy that the Bucs should want to win the starting job. Wright and Myers are just keeping the seat warm until then. AS-J is 6-foot-5, 260 pounds and ran a 4.56-40 at his pro day. He looks like a future star. The only question is, when does that future arrive? Wright is just a so-so TE2.
Meanwhile, Josh McCown, Tampa Bay's expected starting QB, has a bevy of tall targets from which to choose.
