According to Geoff Hobson of the Bengals' official website, the team is "toying" with putting running backs Giovani Bernard and Jeremy Hill on the field at the same time. Hobson points out that such an alignment could prove troublesome for any defense since both players are capable pass-catchers.
Also, a source tells ESPN's Field Yates that tight end Jermaine Gresham has been missing and will continue to miss OTAs because he is still recovering from offseason hernia surgery.
Gresham's injury would give Tyler Eifert more field time and more opportunities to carve out a larger role for himself if he wasn't also injured; Eifert is sitting out of these workouts due to a shoulder problem. I don't want any part of Gresham, but I'm also not expecting a massive statistical improvement from Eifert. Both are mid-range TE2s.
My key takeaway from that bit about Bernard and Hill is that the rookie is comfortably ahead of veteran RB BenJarvus Green-Ellis at this early stage of their competition for the No. 2 spot. We'll see if Hill can keep it up in training camp. If he can, BJG-E is likely to be cut.
