... You Know Who is not too far behind.
Browns head coach Mike Pettine confirmed Thursday that Brian Hoyer will enter next month's training camp as the team's starting quarterback. While Hoyer is ahead of rookie Johnny Manziel, Pettine said, "I don't think it's insurmountable."
What, nothing about Tyler Thigpen?
Hoyer is going to have to play exceedingly well to hold off Manziel, who would also need to play exceedingly bad to not get the job. The pressure put upon Pettine and the Browns by their fans, local and national media, and just about everyone else to play Manziel right away will be very strong, bordering on insane. Offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan knows how to play with a running QB and has already implemented some of the same plays he dialed up for Robert Griffin III in Washington. While preaching competition, I think the Browns will focus on structuring their offense to fit Manziel. Now all the rookie needs to do is not fall on his face in camp. His legs give him decent QB2 value.
