Steelers 'mixed and matched' RBs Le'Veon Bell, LeGarrette Blount in OTAs

Le'Veon Bell showed workhorse qualities as a rookie last season as he handled the football 289 times in 13 games. Although he averaged just 3.5 yards per carry, he produced better numbers as the season grew older. He is definitely the Steelers' starting running back entering 2014, but might he lose a significant amount of playing time to veteran LeGarrette Blount @LG_Blount?
Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette wrote Thursday that the Steelers "mixed and matched" the two runners with the first-team offense during OTAs and had them both line up at wide receiver. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger said the team is asking Bell and Blount "to do the same stuff."

Fantasy Analysis:

The Steelers are seeing what works as they install more hurry-up plays. You have to believe they will come to the conclusion that Bell should be given the wide majority of the touches out of the backfield since he possesses their most effective combination of running, catching, and blocking. Blount should be present in short-yardage situations and when Bell needs a breather. Rookie Dri Archer is purely a change-of-pace weapon.
Plus, I'm guessing Pittsburgh's coaches put Blount at wide receiver to produce a little levity before the end of this week's minicamp. Bell is an RB1.
