Mike Florio over at PFT is reporting that 'sources' familiar with Vernon Davis say he's considering holding out on training camp until he receives a new contract. Davis already refused to attend OTA's with the 49ers in June. Davis signed a 6-year, $42 million dollar contract with $23 million guaranteed in 2010. He's scheduled to become a free agent in 2016.
By 2016 he'll be 32 years old. There isn't that big of a market for older tight ends seeking contract extensions. For fantasy purposes, in 2013 he put up a 52/850/13 line finishing as a TE5 in PPR formats. He still has plenty of play-making ability and can be considered a low-end TE1 prospect when he plays this year. If he doesn't, backup Vance McDonald is a name to watch for.
