49ers RB Marcus Lattimore to practice 'very soon'

ESPN's Bill Williamson says via Twitter that RB Lattimore is "fine" and will be back on the practice field in short order. Williamson says that the 49ers are "being careful" with Lattimore, but his tweet suggests that the second-year back is ready to play football again soon. Lattimore suffered two major knee injuries during his college career at the University of South Carolina, and has spent the last two years preparing to make a comeback.

Fantasy Analysis:

This is exciting news for both Lattimore and fantasy players. Before his two devastating injuries, Lattimore was an excellent NFL prospect, and hopes are high that he can recapture some of that potential. He'll attempt to do so in a 49ers backfield that is more open than it has been in some time, with RB Frank Gore in the twilight of his career. Lattimore's competition includes well-reviewed rookie RB Carlos Hyde, and also long-time backup RB Kendall Hunter @KendallHunter32. It's impossible to say at this point what Lattimore's fantasy value is, but if his college days are any indicator, his ceiling could be very high indeed.
