Bengals president Mike Brown said Tuesday that Dalton will be the team's quarterback for the "immediate future." While Brown indicated that he'd like to get a long-term deal done with Dalton, he also said that the team would be willing to place a franchise tag on him in 2015. Dalton is currently in the final year of a four-year, $5.2 million contract.
This isn't exactly a screaming endorsement of Dalton by the Bengals team president. In his three years with the team, Dalton has performed solidly. Last year he finished fifth among all fantasy quarterbacks in points scored, a fact lost on many fantasy owners. If the Bengals choose not to re-sign Dalton to a long-term deal, he'll have no trouble taking his talents to another team. For this year, though, Dalton's fantasy value should remain about the same. He's currently ranked as the 16th overall quarterback by FFToolbox.com, a spot at which he may be a solid value.
