49ers training camp opened its doors to all veterans on Wednesday, and as expected by some, tight end Vernon Davis was in the building. His presence was confirmed through an Instagram video by safety C.J. Spillman .
A source has told Pro Football Talk that Davis still wants a new contract, but he came to the conclusion that getting what he wants wasn't worth a $30,000 fine for each day of camp missed. Plus, the 49ers only negotiate with players who are in camp.
Thus, it's business as usual for Davis and fantasy owners. A repeat of his 13 touchdowns seems unlikely with Michael Crabtree healthy, and Stevie Johnson added to the roster. Davis is still a safe TE1.
