Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Justin Blackmon was arrested Wednesday night after police found marijuana in his car during a routine traffic stop, according to Newson6.com. Last October, Blackmon was served a one-year suspension without pay by the Jaguars for his substance abuse problems. He has now missed 14 games in his two NFL seasons due to drug-related suspensions, and it looks as though that number will be increasing.
This story isn't surprising, but it is sad. Blackmon has flashed tremendous potential when he's been on the field for the Jaguars, particularly in his first two games of the 2013 season when he caught a combined 19 balls for 329 yards and a touchdown. Unfortunately, his off-the-field substance abuse issues look set to end his career. If Blackmon could get his act together and focus on being a professional football player, he'd likely be a solid WR1. But as things stand today, he's undraftable. With Jaguars WR Ace Sanders also recently suspended for four games, WR Cecil Shorts and rookies WR Marqise Lee and Allen Robinson will be candidates to take on the extra work.
