Hillman has "usually been the running back up" in Broncos camp so far, according to denverbroncos.com. With Broncos RB Montee Ball solidly positioned as the team's starter, Hillman and Broncos RB C.J. Anderson are in competition for the lead backup role. While many saw Anderson as the better player coming in to camp, it looks like Hillman has the edge at this point.
The Denver job is Ball's to lose, so whichever player winds up with backup duties will have little more than handcuff value. Anderson missed most of last season with a knee injury, allowing Hillman the opportunity to split backup duties with Ball. Now, Anderson may be in danger of being relegated to the third string again in 2014. Anderson is currently being taken 57th among running backs, and Hillman is going undrafted. If Hillman is indeed the Denver backup, those ADP's should be reversed.
