After only playing four years in the NFL, Jake Ballard is retiring. He played 14 games in 2011, totaling 38 receptions for 604 yards and four touchdowns. He tore his ACL that season and although he has played in games since recovering, he's never really looked the same. Arizona will be left with John Carlson, Troy Niklas and Rob Housler competing at the position.
It doesn't really do much at TE for the Cardinals. Ballard was more of a backup option with Carlson and Niklas battling for starting duties. Housler is also in the mix somewhere. It's a competition to monitor throughout camp.
