Bears wide receiver Marquess Wilson broke his collarbone in three places and is out until at least midseason, according to USA Today. The injury occurred two weeks ago, and Wilson had surgery Aug. 5. The earliest return date for Wilson would likely be Week 10, following the Bears' Week 9 bye. In Wilson's absence, expect newly acquired WR Santonio Holmes to get a strong look as the WR3 in Chicago.
This is disappointing news as Wilson was one of the more exciting sleeper prospects among WRs going into 2014. He was reportedly very impressive during the offseason and spent time working out with teammate Brandon Marshall . Unfortunately, he won't get a chance to showcase his improvements in the first half of the 2014 season and should no longer be taken in drafts. Holmes, conversely, is suddenly a very interesting pick as a WR4/5. He may struggle for targets behind Marshall and WR Alshon Jeffery , but the savvy vet will also see the softest coverage of the Bears' WRs.
