Buccaneers RB Charles Sims out 12-14 weeks with ankle injury

Buccaneers rookie running back Charles Sims underwent surgery on Saturday for a broken ankle and will miss 12 to 14 weeks as he recovers, according to CBS Sports. Sims, the Buccaneers' third-round draft pick, was expected to see work early as part of a committee involving himself, Doug Martin @DougMartin22, Bobby Rainey @BobbyRainey and Mike James. Sims totaled 45 total yards in the Buccaneers' first preseason game.

Fantasy Analysis:

Well, the Buccaneers' backfield is suddenly a bit less crowded. This is a tough break for Sims, who was impressive in camp and his first preseason game. But as Sims' value drops, Martin's rises. Sims was a favorite among fantasy analysts to take carries from the third-year Martin. Now Martin will battle just Rainey and James for work. As for what to do with Sims in a draft, it's simple: Don't pick him unless your league is very, very deep and carries an IR spot. He'll still be on the waiver wire late in the season if you find yourself desperate.

The playing time added for Doug Martin due to the Sims injury will equate to at least 20-30pts for the season, which would put him back in "projected" ELITE status, as a Top 5 RB, and at the very least, a 1st Rnd pick....Anyone else uncomfortable with that ???

I'm very uncomfortable with Martin as a Top 5 RB and a first-round pick. I think that while he might see a few more touches because of the Sims injury, the Bucs backfield is fundamentally a RBBC. Rainey and James are talented backs in their own right. I would not reach for Martin in Round 1.
