Whatever type of training camp competition was taking place between Raiders quarterbacks Matt Schaub and Derek Carr, either real or perceived, is over. NFL.com Ian Rapoport said Monday that Schaub is the Raiders' starter and that the team believes he is ready to return to being the solid NFL starter he was for some time in Houston.
"Make no mistake, Derek Carr is the future of the Oakland Raiders' quarterback situation," Rapoport said. "It's just not going to be the present."
Pardon me for not paying close attention to Raiders offensive players during the preseason, but I really haven't watched Schaub at all this month. However, the numbers tell a horrific story. A completion percentage of 55 percent, 5.4 yards per attempt, no touchdowns and one interception through two preseason games.
Carr hasn't been much better against second- and third-team defenses and is coming off of a concussion suffered Saturday night.
No matter who starts at QB for Oakland this season, you will want to stream defenses facing them. I don't want to own any part of this offense, and that includes Maurice Jones-Drew and Darren McFadden .
