In what is arguably the biggest quarterback competition of the 2014 preseason, Cleveland Browns QBs Johnny Manziel and Brian Hoyer looked average in their respective stints with the first-team offense Monday night versus the Redskins. Although Manziel didn't start the game, he completed 7 of 16 passing attempts for 65 yards with one touchdown. Notable was his lack of accuracy, throwing behind tight end Jordan Cameron twice, throwing behind wide receiver Josh Gordon once and sailing another pass far over his head. Hoyer didn't look impressive either, completing 2 of 6 passes for 16 yards. If they are tied for starting duties, neither made the definitive case tonight as to why they should start in Week 1.
More surprising than Hoyer not looking good was Manziel not performing with a great opportunity to prove himself and pull ahead in this QB competition. For fantasy purposes, it may be best to stay clear of both for now. We'll get a better look at both QBs versus the Rams in the third preseason game this Saturday. FFToolbox ADP chart have Manziel going off the draft board in the 12th round while Hoyer is being undrafted.
