Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles will sit out third preseason game

Charles is not expected to play in the Chiefs' third preseason game versus the Vikings Saturday night, according to ESPN's Ed Werder. Charles had been sidelined recently with a foot injury, but was able to return to training camp this week. Still, the Chiefs apparently see fit to rest Charles for the game, which is often referred to as a "dress rehearsal" for the regular season.

Fantasy Analysis:

It's run-of-the-mill for teams to hold out star players for the preseason. THe foot injury is minor and should be treated by fantasy owners as such. Those drafting Charles should be more concerned about the state of the Chiefs' offensive line. The unit lost three of its five 2013 starters to free agency, and is among the youngest - and least experienced - in the league. Additionally, LT Eric Fisher has missed time at camp due to a shoulder injury, and has looked bad in his preseason work against the Bengals and Panthers. Charles is a enormously talented player, but he may not be immune from a bad O-line. Charles is still worth a top-3 pick, but owners should be aware of the red flags.
