Patriots running back Shane Vereen scored two receiving touchdowns in the Patriots' 30-7 rout of the Panthers on Friday night. The first was a 40-yard catch-and-run in which Vereen took advantage of a broken Panthers defense. The second was a 6-yard reception in which Vereen dived for the pylon and was ruled down but was subsequently awarded the touchdown upon official review. In total, Vereen had six carries for 18 yards and caught five passes for 57 yards and two touchdowns.
This was an encouraging night from Vereen, who is rightly considered the top fantasy RB in the Patriots' backfield. Stevan Ridley carried eight times for just 28 yards, and James White saw four carries for 15 yards and a 5-yard catch. Vereen appears to have the most big-play ability of the Patriots' RBs. In PPR, he's a solid RB2. In standard formats, he's more of a low-end RB2 or a very strong flex option. Vereen is being taken 18th among running backs in the average fantasy draft.
