What took so long? Josh Gordon 's one-year suspension for multiple violations of the NFL's substance abuse policy has been upheld on appeal. The suspension is effective immediately. He won't be able to play this year and will have to file for reinstatement to play in 2015, which will be determined by Commissioner Roger Goodell.
And because it took so much time for the suspension to be handed down, Gordon will now miss basically all of next season's training camp even if he gains reinstatement. Although he deserves some sympathy for how this process was handled -- and the league's ridiculously stringent standards on marijuana -- the fact remains that Gordon screwed up again and is without a safety net for the rest of his career. Another violation could mean a lifetime ban.
The NFL's leading receiver being suspended for an entire season is a big headline. But in fantasy, this isn't a top story. This has been expected for months. Yes, there were reports recently about how Gordon might be suspended for only eight games, but that seemed to be wishful thinking. Most fantasy owners have been ignoring Gordon and they can continue to do so.
The Browns will have Miles Austin and Andrew Hawkins represent their top wideouts, but tight end Jordan Cameron will probably be the No. 1 option in this passing game. However, all of their values will be tempered by the Browns' run-heavy offense. The success of Ben Tate and Terrance West will truly tell how far this offense goes in 2014.
